Are FiveM's New Vehicle Rules Too Strict? What Server Owners Need to Know

Following the 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, FiveM passed several new rules regarding vehicles in servers. Now real-world branded vehicles, logos, and debadged replicas are prohibited from use in game. What does that mean for server owners?

With the new regulations in place, server owners have to comply by using lore-friendly or fully original vehicle models. What are lore-friendly vehicles? Lore-friendly vehicles are those models that are found in a typical Grand Theft Auto game, including those from Vapid, Bravado, Pegassi. What are fully original vehicle models? Fully original vehicle models are those that are not real-world based, and that have been created completely using new ideas that haven't been used.

Why is this a problem? Server owners now have to find ways to either get new packs with safe assets or be subject to having their servers face repercussions from Cfx.re for failing to follow the Platform License Agreement put into place. These repercussions can result in having IP claims from real-world companies. Many server owners have already sunk funds into purchasing the real-world models from modelers. All of those packs are not usable after the rules passed.

Other problems surrounding the new rules are that some of the unbranded or generic models are being flagged as unusable, as well as the painstakingly long task of going through their entire server assets to make sure that they are in compliance. Many server owners just don't have that kind of time on their hands to comb through everything that they have already placed in their servers.

While protecting IP is important, the shift in rules have caused lots of confusion and scrambling of FiveM server owners to make sure they are compliant. Having clearer guidelines of what can and what cannot be used will prove to be more beneficial in the long run for everyone to fully enjoy FiveM.
